Our Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme running in Forth Valley encourages and assists older people to use their skills and experience to volunteer and keep active in retirement. Across England, Wales and Scotland we have hundreds of older people volunteering in their communities including in local hospitals, schools, healthy walking groups and charitable knitting groups. Volunteering can have a huge impact on the people and services we support, the local community and volunteers themselves.
Older people who volunteer are less likely to become socially isolated, experience fewer health problems, socialise more and have fun in retirement. Volunteering gives some a sense of purpose after leaving the world of work, and the altruistic effects are extremely beneficial to older volunteers. We recruit, train and support older volunteers to participate in their community through local voluntary opportunities.
