Key Facts

  • Running across Ipswich, Suffolk
  • Delivering volunteer-led programmes to families with primary school aged children, engaging particularly with those from migrant communities
  • Supporting parents to play a greater role in their child’s education

Knowledge Equals Opportunities (KEO) aims to empower families with young children to take more of an active role in their child’s education. Working predominantly with beneficiaries who are new to the UK, Volunteering Matters recruits and fully trains volunteers to deliver programmes and provide support to families in Ipswich. Depending on the needs of the individual, support could be:

  • Helping to understand the UK school system
  • Providing opportunities for parents’ own language and literacy development through volunteer led conversational English groups in readiness to access ESOL Level 2 formal learning course
  • Meeting for one-on-one sessions to talk about confidence and wellbeing, leading to increased self esteem
  • Delivering online safety sessions as part of a social action 6-week programme on behalf of Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner

By supporting parents’ engagement with their child’s education, KEO aims to encourage parents to learn and integrate more into their community, further develop their language skills, their parenting skills and connect in a more active way with the community they live in.
