Get Out Get Active (GOGA) is a UK wide programme, funded by Spirit of 2012 that aims to encourage disabled and non-disabled people to take part in and enjoy activity together.
Working across 18 locations across the UK, GOGA is reaching the least active individuals in the community delivering fun and inclusive activities to encourage more people to get active through inclusive active recreation and volunteering opportunities.
Statistics continually show us that disabled people are some of the least active. With two-thirds of disabled people saying they wanted to take part in activity with non-disabled people (Activity Alliance’s, formerly known as English Federation of Disability Sport, Lifestyle Report 2013), GOGA looks to respond to this.
Working together, the partners aim to increase the number of people who are able to access and enjoy local opportunities. This could be through local authority or independent provision, sports clubs or through volunteering. Providers motivate participants by tapping into the things that matter most to them. This includes building friendships, maintaining health, having fun and progressing in life.
Volunteers are central to the GOGA programme! There are lots of opportunities for volunteers from mentoring and buddy roles through to marketing, evaluation and delivery roles. In return, volunteers have the chance to learn and develop new skills, build confidence and help to make their community healthier, happier and more cohesive.
Through GOGA we will help to develop thriving communities where everyone can play a meaningful role. As part of GOGA we’ve developed a GOGA Volunteer Management Toolkit.
No matter your interest or where you are based in the UK, if you would like to volunteer get in touch and you’ll receive a high standard of support through your volunteering experience.
