A new comedy group aimed at people aged 50 plus is launching in Brighton. The Laughter Club has its launch event at Patching Lodge on Tuesday 14th February from 1400-1500 and will run at the same time every week.

“We’ve just heard there’s been an accident on the Eastern Road. A cement mixer has collided with a prison van.  Motorists are asked to be on the lookout for 16 hardened criminals.”

With jokes and scripts that focus on events from the Fifties and Sixties and musical interludes, the group will bring people together through shared humour and memories.

Volunteer organiser, Steve, said; “we want people to come and play a part – bring their favourite jokes or just sit back and have a good chuckle.”

The Laughter Club is just one of a number of new groups for people aged 50 plus being launched by our project, Lifelines.

“Dance of Awareness” and a Men’s Health & Cookery Group will also be launching in the next month, and they are all looking for trailblazer members.

Project Officer Chris Martin said “We’re delighted to see these groups get off the ground, inspired by our volunteers’ own interests and enthusiasm. Any volunteers who have a special interest and would like to start a new group, or those interested in joining groups should get in touch so there’s something for everyone!”
