Sex Matters Too Awards Success

Our Sex Matters Too project had a fantastic end to Volunteers Week 2016.  A unique and innovative project that enables young people to deliver peer-led advice sessions on sexual health and how to spot the warning signs of sexual exploitation, Sex Matters Too and its participants were deservedly recognised with not one, but two awards last week.

On Thursday they won the Volunteer Project category at the 2016 Volunteering Recognition Event at the Aneurin Bevan University Health Awards. Not only was the project receiving awards, but so were their volunteers. Sex Matters Too volunteer Ryan Crew-Rees was selected as Youth Volunteer of the Year for the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) Awards on Friday. The awards recognise outstanding people who have made an exceptional contribution to volunteering in their communities.

18-year-old Ryan, from Varteg, Pontypool in South Wales, is a proactive and highly committed volunteer with Sex Matters Too.

Ryan said: “This award highlights how my voluntary work with the Sex Matters Too project has been worthwhile. I would never have thought I’d ever win an award such as this, but I’m extremely grateful and hope to continue volunteering with Volunteering Matters in the future.”
