Network Point Newcastle launched to enhance local Dementia care

Volunteering Matters’ brand new project Network Point Newcastle launched in Newcastle last week, which has been commissioned by Newcastle City Council (NCC). This exciting network will bring together organisations who assist people in mid to late life and dementia; sharing best practice, working together to identify new opportunities and supporting each other to build and grow the volunteering offer in Newcastle and across the region.

At the launch, held at Good Space in Newcastle, fifteen organisations signed up to be involved in the network. Attendees enjoyed wine and cheese as they discussed the initial remit of the organisation during round table discussions. The organisations included Independent Age, Alzheimer’s Society, Jesmond Dementia Action Alliance, the NHS and Newcastle City Council.

NCC and Network Point Newcastle are raising awareness of the fantastic examples of volunteering across the City in relation to mid to late life and Dementia. They will bring together a forum of professionals from across the sector to instigate new initiatives, and training opportunities for volunteers.

Volunteering Matters Project Manager Katie Bradshaw said: “Newcastle is known for how friendly it is, so it’s no surprise that we have so many fantastic projects in the City that support our community. I look forward to bringing all of those projects together and sharing their achievements.”
