Soft-matching in parliament for Grandmentors Milton Keynes!

Twenty participants on the award-winning Grandmentors project got the amazing opportunity to have a tour of Parliament last week! The tour was part of a ‘soft-matching’ event run by Volunteering Matters, where volunteers are brought together with potential mentees to meet for the first time. On the day, while the young people and Grandmentors got to know each other informally, they learnt about the history of Parliament and its role in making changes that affect day-to-day life.

Kelly Israel, Grandmentors Volunteer Manager in Milton Keynes, said:  “Grandmentors is a truly inspirational project to facilitate. The impact of dedicated one-to-one mentoring for care leavers is both life changing and lifesaving. The trip to Parliament saw four matches made and four lives will be fundamentally transformed as a result of the dedication shown by our volunteers. Mentoring takes just a couple of hours a week, but the impact lasts a lifetime.”
