We think the best way to find out about our work is to hear directly from the people involved in volunteering projects across the UK. These inspirational stories from our volunteers will give you an insight into how our volunteers are helping to transform lives and change communities across the UK.
To celebrate Power Of Youth Day we put the spotlight on Team London Young Ambassadors at Kingston Mencap. One of the TLYA young ambassadors, Adam (not his real name) has used his own experience with mental health problems to develop a mental health plan that provides a safe space for others to feel safe and supported through their own struggles. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing more youth social action stories from our amazing Team London Young Ambassadors. For Volunteers’ Week we asked Engagement Manager Jenna and volunteers Laura and Terry to give us some insight into how volunteering has given them opportunities that have moved them forwards in their career. Sean told us about volunteering his time, energy and experience to produced podcasts for Mental Health Awareness Week with our team in Pontypool. Sancia is involved with Grandmentors Brent as a young person, and she also runs a youth social action podcast about the experience of care leavers. Rosemary hasn’t let the pandemic affect her passion for supporting vulnerable people in her local community. With the support of volunteer Grandmentor Bindi, Ruby’s dreams of going to university have become a reality. We’re delighted to support the #PinYourThanks initiative. People volunteering their time to help each other has saved countless lives in the most difficult of circumstances. Buy your badge and say thanks to volunteers today. Volunteering Matters has been organising online workshops in partnership with Deutsche Bank to help students make informed decisions about their career goals. Innovative digital volunteering roles are helping young people to respond to the pandemic safely, in a way that positively impacts their community. With social distancing and lockdown measures, it’s easy for people become isolated and lonely, especially those who may be older and more at risk from corona virus.
